EN 590 update…
Following the work by the Technical Committee CEN TC/19 the draft prEN 590 Standard for Diesel Fuels was issued to CEN members in September. Subject to the acceptance procedure this will supersede EN 590:2004 and includes the IQT™ test method EN 15195 as an approved alternative to the CFR Engine.
Standardisation committees are continuing work for the Cetane measurement of B100 with a view to further standardisation of the IQT™ for this application. A recent round robin showed the IQT to achieve similar Reproducability, and in comparison, the CFR engine had significantly worse precision. A number of IQT™’s are routinely used for the fast and efficient testing of B100 products.
Within Europe the IQT™ user base continues to expand with 42 instruments in service and 25 of these located at refineries.
