IQT achieves specification status

2/8/2007

ASTM D6890 now included in ASTM D975

Following extensive ASTM/EI inter-laboratory studies test method ASTM D6890 passed final ballot for inclusion in the Diesel Fuel Specification ASTM D975 at the ASTM D02 June 2006 meeting in Toronto.

Similarly ASTM D6890 has been balloted for inclusion within the B100 specification ASTM D6751.

Within Europe there is significant progress towards inclusion within the diesel fuel specification EN590. Test method EN 15195 has been sent to CEN for administration following the formal vote procedure and CEN/TC19 WG24 has agreed to incorporate EN 15195 as an alternative method into EN590 at the next revision. A draft specification revision is expected to be issued to member states in 2008 and to take effect in 2009.

Biodiesel specification EN 14214 will typically align with EN 590 and is expected to include EN 15195 for ignition quality testing.

As a result of CN/DCN agreement studies the standardisation bodies have worked to ensure intenational harmonisation and a common Derived Cetane Number equation is to be referenced across ASTM D6890, IP 498 and EN 15195.

Expanding user base:

The IQT population continues to expand globally in all five continents. Within Europe the user base comprises in excess of 30 units in 10 countries. 14 major refineries are now using the IQT in day to day operations, often running on a 3 shift basis.

Significant cost savings have been reported with rapid capital cost recovery, typically within 12 months, based on the improved precision and capability to minimise giveaway through blending optimisation.

To supporting refining operations, maintenance training courses, service contracts and an extensive stock of spare parts are available in Northern Europe. User and operator groups are routinely organised via teleconferencing and an annual meeting.

Product improvements:

The latest generation IQT features a smaller compact footprint with electronics and rack mounted PC integral to the base unit. A touch screen monitor is provided for ease of use and a new heater monitoring system provides real time indication of heater status.
